A discussion erupted on /v/ Wednesday over the state of Sonic Racing’s latest festival event, with players airing grievances about what they characterized as fundamentally broken game mechanics and an item balance system gone haywire.

The consensus among commenters was decidedly negative. One user wrote that the “Shootout” mode was particularly offensive, alleging that “desync still ruins point tallying” and that “item frenzy is still bugged for non-crossworlds.” The same player complained about relentless item spam, writing: “you can’t get away from it and you can barely get any points if you even dare to fight back.”

Another respondent described the festival as “actual AIDS,” claiming that “you can definitely see the cracks in this game with this one.” Players reportedly found themselves caught in endless cycles of punishment. One commenter detailed being repeatedly hit while the damage mercy system malfunctioned, describing a pattern where invincibility frames would expire only to have them take damage seconds later, each time resetting the mercy timer.

Desynchronization proved to be a recurring complaint. A user alleged that items were “thrown into the desync void” and simply failed to connect with targets, or that saws would inexplicably miss at point-blank range. Another player claimed to have experienced a lobby glitch that forced lengthy waits before races would start.

Track design also drew criticism. One commenter grumbled about Dinosaur Jungle’s invisible collision walls, while others reported getting pushed into unfamiliar shortcuts or hazards they couldn’t see clearly with their selected character models.

Not all sentiment was uniformly bleak. A small contingent of players reported success teaming up with anonymous /v/ users, with one writing that their lobby “was consistently placing 1st in every race” outside of Air Tricks. Another user set up a casual lobby specifically to give frustrated players “a break from shit-out,” offering refuge from what they called “ttv fags and top 10 fags.”

Several players reportedly planned to abandon the event once they completed collaboration requirements, with one stating they would “dip after he’s done to do other shit.” A respondent announced they were taking an extended break from the game itself, waiting for an upcoming Puyo Puyo-themed festival to reignite their interest.

The thread reflected broader frustration with what users characterized as increasingly unplayable festival conditions, though a minority maintained that skill and teamwork could overcome the game’s mechanical shortcomings.
